Your domestic flight from Entebbe to Kihihi will be a real treat. Flying over the third largest lake in the world will give you an incredible perspective of just how beautiful Uganda is. Lake Victoria is dotted with several islands and fishing villages which can be seen on taking off and landing. On arrival to Kihihi, you will be met by a Let's Go Travel representative who will transfer you in a 4X4 vehicle to your lodge!
The transfer from Kihihi airstrip to the Buhoma sector of Bwindi will take around one and a half hours and the road can be a little bit bumpy, it does give you enough time to contemplate your gorilla adventure ahead as well as being captivated by the incredible scenery synonymous with this part of Uganda.
Day 3, Bwindi
Your Gorilla Trekking experience is finally here, hope your camera is charged and you are ready for what lies ahead. An early start will see you transfer to the Park Headquarters for a briefing with the Uganda Wildlife Authority guides. An advance party of guides will have gone ahead into the forest to locate where the gorillas slept the previous night and will have began to track their movements. These guides will communicate with your team via a walkie-talkie and the trek into the forest will begin.
Locating the Gorillas can take a few hours or the whole day depending on how far they have moved from the place they spent the previous night. For conservation purposes, the amount of time allowed with the Gorillas is 1 hour. As you trek through the forest you will appreciate why the forest is called impenetrable. There is also a multitude of other animals that you might encounter including antelopes and rare monkeys not to mention the beauty of the forest itself. Once you have completed the trek you will return to the lodge, for a well earned rest and time to reflect on a truly magical experience.
Day 4, Departure
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Kihihi for your flight back to Entebbe. The drive from your lodge to the airstrip shouldn't take long.
On your flight back from Bwindi to Entebbe you will be afforded a fantastic view of Bwindi The Impenetrable Forest from the air. This always gets people thinking how did I manage to find the Gorillas in all that jungle below? Make sure you have your camera ready or simply enjoy the amazing view. From this high up you can also see the mountains and forests in Congo and Rwanda!
